DIY Plaid Skirt

What I'm Wearing: Plaid Shirt Rails | Shirt Splendid | Boots Zara, Similar

I bought a lot of plaid this past season, but the one item I didn't buy was a plaid skirt. And though in the back of my head I was wanting one, I kept choosing other items instead. But then I found some internet inspiration and decided to make my own plaid skirt using my favorite plaid shirt. It's very simple. All I did was button up the shirt part way (I did about 3/4 of the way up for a higher waist, but button as many as you'd like) and then I just folded the top part down and tied the arms. The result, a plaid skirt that resembles the dressed down look of having a shirt tied around your waist. And then a simple black shirt keeps the look nice and simple.

A Trip to the Brooklyn Museum

Over the weekend I took a trip to the Brooklyn Museum to see The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. It is an exhibit I highly recommend anyone who has any interest in fashion or just appreciates looking at incredibly made, and just incredible clothing. Not only was the exhibit full of gorgeous pieces from Gaultier's pret-a-porter and haute couture lines, but many of them have never before been on display. And tour outfits from both Madonna and Beyonce were present, which automatically makes the exhibit a must see.

But the absolute coolest part? Almost every mannequin in the exhibit had a moving face courtesy of projectors. And while, yes, it was a bit creepy at first when the models seemed to be staring right at you and possibly giving you some side-eye, it was also one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The mannequins sang, spoke, and some just glanced around. Plus, Jean Paul Gaultier himself was there (in projected form) and he spoke about fashion in both English and French. You can see more photos I took of the exhibit after the jump, but if you can I highly recommend going to see this exhibit in person, it is definitely worth it.

What I'm Wearing: Jeans J Brand | Blouse Similar | Coat The Kooples | Boots Burberry

It's one thing to find the most perfect pair of Burberry burgundy boots online. It's quite another thing when their is one pair left in your size. And it's the best thing ever when those boots also happen to be FIFTY PERCENT OFF! Yes, it's so exciting it deserves all caps. (Found them on My Wardrobe, by the way) I kept the rest of the outfit simple, with ripped jeans, a white blouse, and my coat. And while I really wanted to wear these jeans because I'm in love with the wash and the perfectly destroyed denim, you won't see them again until Spring because it's just too freaking cold for any type of exposed skin.

Day to Night Make-Up

Makeup infogrpahic by Macy's

I know I usually only discuss clothing on here, but what better way to complete the perfect outfit than to have the perfect makeup to go alongside it. We all want an easy makeup routine that works, and one that can transition so seamlessly from day to night. So when I was given the chance to share this awesome informational graphic with you guys, I of course said yes. I personally do not consider myself especially talented when it comes to makeup so I also loved how easy all these tips are to follow, I'm pretty sure even I can do it. (I am pretty proud to say I already knew a few of them, I live for bb cream and love a pop color lip.) Anyways, I hope you find this as helpful as I did, enjoy!

This post is sponsored by Macy’s. I was invited to this opportunity by Blue Polo Interactive and received a Macy’s gift card for my time. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Outfit Of The Day

What I'm Wearing: Jeans AG Jeans | Sweater Tibi | Shoes Vince

Here's some Sunday style inspiration brought to you on a Monday. But since this is a three-day weekend, today is basically just a second Sunday. So weekend style, but Sunday in particular, is all about simplicity for me. Which is why I love this new Tibi sweater, it's so easy to wear and it makes enough of a statement on it's own that it really doesn't need any help. Just a good pair of jeans, and some easy slip-ons complete the look.

Today's look is just a simple, easy outfit with a killer pair of shoes. What better way to spruce up your favorite pair of jeans and a comfy cashmere sweater, than to throw on an unexpected shoe? This pair from Tory Burch is perfect. Not only are they amazing, with the patent cap-toe, but they are also such a classic shoe that they will definitely last a long time.

New day, new combinations. I decided to layer my floral Equipment blouse under my comfiest sweater for a relaxed look with a pulled-together feel. This time, since it was on the warmer side this weekend, I even rolled up the sleeves to give a peek of floral at the cuff too. And of course, I finished off the outfit with my wardrobe staples, some AG jeans and my Zara boots.

What I'm Wearing: Dress All Saints, Similar | Sweater Zara | Boots Zara

This sweater dress is one of those items in my closet that I absolutely love, but for some reason it doesn't get much wear. However, it jumped out at me immediately when I was looking through my closet thinking, "I have nothing to wear," as I often do. So, I decided to take it out and try to do something new with it. Which, of course, meant some sort of layering. In this case I threw this really pretty wine-colored turtleneck on with some tights and my favorite pair of booties. And, there you have it. I also included this picture of my dopey little dogs just cause they are pretty freaking adorable, don't you agree?

Wanted | To The Point

Pointed-toes have been on my radar for a while now. There is something so classic about just about any shoe with a pointed-toe. And a pointed-toe helps to elongate your legs, which is never a bad thing. But, while I like pretty much pointed-toe anything, right now a certain style has caught my eye. Basically loafers, oxfords, or anything menswear inspired with a pointed-toe is on my wish list. The only problem I'm running into is that the best ones are way out of my price range. (Ugh, isn't that always the case though?) So, while I continue my search for the perfect reasonably priced oxford/loafer, although I did find one cut-out version from Forever 21, shop some higher-end styles below:

One essential this winter, for both staying in style and staying warm has to be fur. (Preferably faux, of course.) I'm still working on possibly finding a fur coat, but for now this fur snood is just the right amount of furriness . And I got it in purple to add a little bit of color to my dark winter wardrobe. Check out more furry options to add to your winter wardrobe below:

Winter is all about layering, however, I wanted to try something new. We've seen layering a button down with a sweater plenty of times. But what about layering a button down with another button down? It was kind of just this idea I had in my head for a while and I decided to give it a try. And I must say I love it. I think it works well because of how different the two shirts are though. The crispness of the white shirt against the laid-back nature of the denim shirt adds a fun contrast. And since it was sunny out on Saturday, instead of an impending snow storm as it is now, I got to roll up my sleeves.
